Inspired by Paris

I checked my social media this morning. Twitter informed me that many Australians fear a terrorist attack. To date we have been spared. Reflecting on war, I thought of my parents who alongside many others chose to move forward.

This poem is for them. This poem is for us all. Let us all move forward.

Beyond the noise

Beyond the fear

Something grips me

I feel unclear.

In the darkness of my night

I know my world is no longer bright.

I see reports upon the news

Speeches, tributes, grief and shame

Hot tears inside me

Bathing the  questions of wrong and blame.

I yearn for the life I had before

But the shadow of terrorism stands by the door.

Inside the deepness of my night

I choose to slay the beast that robs my sight.
